# We start off with Netball: Newly appointed Proteas head coach, Jenny van Dyk, says her objective is to continue building a winning team. She has been given a four-year contract and will lead the team to the 2027 World Cup in Australia. Van Dyk will be assisted by former Proteas captain and Maties coach Zanele Mdodana. Her first assignment is to assemble a group of 30 players and finalise the national team. Van Dyk says her dream is to win a World Cup:
# Rugby: Lions flyhalf Jordan Hendrikse will join his Springbok brother Jaden at the Sharks at the start of the new United Rugby Championship season. The brothers went to school in Durban. The Sharks, who are experiencing a horror season, is in last place on the URC log after only one victory in eleven matches, and doesn’t have another number ten other than Curwin Bosch. Scrumhalf Jaden Hendrikse made his debut for South Africa in 2021 and played in 15 Tests since.
# Motorsport: Red Bull’s team principal Christian Horner has been cleared following allegations of inappropriate behaviour made against him. The 50-year-old was under investigation after allegations were made by a female colleague, which he denied. Red Bull says it is confident that the investigation has been fair, rigorous and impartial. It adds that the complainant has a right of appeal. The season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix is this weekend.
# Cricket: Indian pace bowler Mohammed Shami will miss this year’s Indian Premier League after having to undergo an operation in Britain to his Achilles tendon. He was contracted to the Gujarat Titans, teaming up with Protea batter David Miller, in the IPL which kicks off on the 22nd of next month. Shami represented Gujarat since 2022 after stints at Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Daredevils and Punjab Kings. He didn’t give details of the expected length of his discovery, just saying it would take some time.
# And finally, Tennis: The ATP Tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund have signed a five-year strategic partnership to accelerate the growth of the sport globally. The fund will now become the official naming partner of the men’s rankings. It will also have on‑court branding at major ATP tournaments at Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid and Beijing, as well as the season-ending ATP Finals and Next Gen ATP Finals. ATP CEO, Massimo Calvelli, says this partnership will elevate the long‑term future of the sport:
