# The Multi-Party Charter for South Africa has announced a bold initiative to eradicate load-shedding and promote sustainable energy development. Eleven parties collaborated on a plan aimed at dismantling Eskom’s monopoly, fostering private power generation, and establishing a competitive electricity market. DA leader John Steenhuisen outlined the expedited unbundling of Eskom, investment in grid infrastructure, and a regulatory framework for micro-grid construction:
# KwaZulu-Natal police have confirmed the arrest of another suspect in the murder case of rapper and producer Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and his friend, Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane. This follows after provincial police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi confirmed last night that six people have been arrested in connection to the murders in Durban last year. Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda hopes the arrests will provide further insight into the progress of the investigation and the legal proceedings surrounding the high-profile case:
# Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed plans to lay off approximately 900 employees within its PlayStation division, constituting about eight-percent of its global workforce. Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO, Jim Ryan, emphasised the need for changes to continue growing the business and developing the company. Ryan highlighted the immense changes in the industry and the necessity to meet the expectations of developers and gamers, as well as to drive future technology in gaming.
# Rugby: Springbok prop Frans Malherbe will make his first appearance for the Stormers in the current United Rugby Championship season. He recovered from a hip injury sustained during last year’s World Cup in France. Malherbe is one of the Cape Town team’s national players returning in time for Saturday’s clash with the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld. The other Boks are Damian Willemse, Manie Libbok and Deon Fourie, who missed the match against the Sharks due to resting protocols. Forwards coach Rito Hlungwani welcomes the reinforcements:
# Financial indicators: The dollar trades at 19-rand-25-cents and the euro at 20-rand-82-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-35-cents and Bitcoin trades at 59-thousand-282-dollars-89-cents. # And finally: A donation of over 19-billion-rand to a New York medical school is described as the biggest of this kind ever in the United States. It was donated by former pediatrics professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Ruth Gottesman, with the intention of providing free tuition to the institution’s students. She is the widow of Wall Street investor, David “Sandy” Gottesman, whose fortune was estimated at 57-billion-rand when he died in 2022. Ninety-three-year old Gottesman says she feels blessed to be making this gift to such a worthy cause.
