# A News24/SABI poll shows that if the local government elections were tomorrow, the ANC would still be the largest party at 31.6-percent. The DA is now within five points of the ANC nationally with 25.2-percent, followed by the MK Party at 14.7-percent. The poll also shows the DA leading in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Tshwane, while the MK Party is leading in eThekwini with 43.4-percent. The poll was conducted among five-thousand-and-one registered voters.

A total of 142-thousand-and-72 candidates have been nominated to contest ten-thousand-526 council seats across municipalities. The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Local Government Elections has expressed satisfaction with preparations for the upcoming polls. # Limpopo police have opened an inquest after a 22-year-old female student from the University of Limpopo was found dead along the perimeter fence just outside the campus along Sovenga Street. She was partially dressed, with her identity document and National Student Financial Aid Scheme card on her. Police spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba says the body was inspected and no visible external injuries were observed at the scene:
# The US Air Force has removed all of its bombers from RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, after the British military air base was the target of a suspected terror attack last month. Five British nationals were arrested on suspicion of explosives offences and terrorism, but were released on bail. Last week, UK prime minister Andy Burnham said there was a “strong indication that Iran played a part” in the incident. Tehran has denied any involvement. A Pentagon official says all US bombers have redeployed to their home stations in America.
# Golf: Poland’s Adrian Meronk fought from four shots behind to overtake South African Casey Jarvis and win the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland. The 33-year-old finished on four-under 68 to claim his fifth DP World Tour title and regain his tour card for next season. Jarvis, who posted a final round 72, finished tied for second with Denmark’s Niklas Nørgaard. World number 979 Michael Stewart of Scotland placed tied for fourth with England’s Tommy Fleetwood, at 16-under. Last year’s champion Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre finished tied for sixth place.
