# The City of Johannesburg has approved a new policy to improve the development and services in informal settlements. Each resident will be profiled, and households will be given identification numbers to help manage settlement information. The policy will also provide plans for roads, community facilities and future services, while allowing for temporary permits to improve residents’ security of tenure. Mayoral committee member for Human Settlements Mlungisi Mabaso says the policy will improve basic services, planning and cooperation with residents.
