# KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlahla Mkhwanazi has tasked the police’s Murder and Robbery Unit to investigate the killing of eleven people who were shot and killed at Ziko area in KwaMakhutha, Durban, on Tuesday night. Fourteen people were inside a house when three armed men opened fire. Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says ten victims died at the scene, while another died in hospital:
# The DA is calling on minister of Social Development Dina Pule to account to Parliament on the alleged assassination plot against social security agency SASSA’s Eastern Cape regional manager. Bandile Maqetuka is said to have been targeted while uncovering fraud and corruption involving suspected losses of ten-million-rand. The DA says these allegations raise serious questions about the extent of fraud and corruption within SASSA, the networks allegedly benefiting from the abuse of the grant system, and whether officials tasked with exposing this wrongdoing are being adequately protected.
# Activists and Citizens Forum calls on the Independent Directorate against Corruption to provide clarity on whether former member of Parliament, Vincent Smith, was unfairly singled out in the Bosasa corruption case. He was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment in March on charges including fraud and corruption linked to receiving kickbacks from the facilities management company. Spokesperson Dennis Bloem says other people implicated in the Zondo commission have yet to face justice:

# Foreign secretary Ed Miliband has warned Iran Britain will not tolerate intimidation, threats, or hostile activity on UK soil from groups linked to Teheran. He met with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York yesterday. Over a week ago, British intelligence services uncovered an Iranian spyware campaign stealing sensitive data from targets around the world. Miliband urged Iran to choose de-escalation and diplomacy instead of prolonging the war with the US and Israel.
# Soccer: Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane is confident they can get a positive result in their first Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea at Orlando Stadium in Soweto tomorrow. The West African nation is likely to be South Africa’s main rivals in Group D, which also includes Kenya and Eritrea. Mosimane says he is well aware of the threat posed by Guinea, who have one of the world’s most dangerous strikers in Serhou Guirassy:
