# The Pretoria Magistrate’s Court has granted the wife of businessman Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala, Tsakane, and co-accused, Claudette Masethe and Given Makofane, 20-thousand-rand bail each in a lease fraud and corruption case. Cat Matlala remains in custody at Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre in the same case. The accused face allegations of using fraudulent documents and falsified bank statements to secure a Waterkloof Ridge property in Pretoria. The case has been postponed to 29 October for further investigations and the defence to receive the docket.

# Madlanga Commission commissioner Sesi Baloyi says Mpumalanga taxi boss Oupa Sindane should have answered questions unrelated to his criminal case involving an alleged extortion scheme worth more than two-million-rand. His lawyers want more time to identify questions he can answer without prejudicing his rights. Baloyi says Sindane’s failure to distinguish between questions he could answer and those affecting his trial, weakens the reasons for his non-appearance:

# A Limpopo businessman faces further serious charges after appearing in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today. The owner of the Limpopo Anti-Drug Centre, Tsebe Moloto, was already out on fifty-thousand-rand bail for malicious damage to property. The state has added arson, trespassing, and five counts of attempted murder. It is alleged Moloto poured flammable liquid onto his ex-partner’s Hilux and torched it with people inside, before burning her business sign in Ladanna. The case was postponed to the 30th of October for a decision by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

# The George Municipality and the Western Cape Government have launched a GO GEORGE trial route between the George CBD and George Airport. This will provide bus passengers, including anyone working at the airport, with new travel options weekly. The municipality’s spokesperson, Ntobeko Mangqwengqwe, says Route 19 will operate from 5am to 8pm daily. He says during peak hours, buses will depart approximately every 22 minutes, with a 45-minute frequency during off-peak times:

# Cricket: Proteas batter David Miller has reaffirmed his commitment to the national team for the foreseeable future, despite not being contracted for the 2026/27 season. The 37-year-old was omitted from Cricket South Africa’s books after spending the last year on a hybrid deal, designed for single-format or veteran players. Miller will make his first one-day outing since March last year against Australia tomorrow. He says his goal is to be selected for next year’s World Cup being co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-35-cents and the euro at 18-rand-64-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-69-cents and Bitcoin trades at 85-thousand-520-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-308-dollars-61-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 100-dollars-89-cents a barrel.
