# Gauteng Human Settlements MEC Tasneem Motara says residents who build illegal informal settlements will no longer be prioritised for housing. She was speaking at the sod-turning of the Mabopane Extension 1 project, north of Pretoria, which will yield one-thousand-576 units by June 2027 after two previous contractors were terminated. Motara says the department will prioritise those who applied between 1996 and 1999 and obeyed the law.
