Former SAPS lieutenant colonel Pieter Andries Nel convicted of R1.2-million fraud

# Former SAPS Head of Financial Services in the ZF Mgcawu District, Northern Cape, lieutenant colonel Pieter Andries Nel, has been convicted of 160 charges after admitting to defrauding the police of more than 1.2-million-rand. Nel pleaded guilty to 80 fraud and 80 money-laundering counts in the Upington Serious Commercial Crimes Court. Between 2022 and 2024, Nel created fraudulent payments and false travel claims, with the money paid into his account leading to his dismissal in 2024. He will be sentenced on 2 December.
