# President Cyril Ramaphosa says every effort will be made to solve the recent killings of women in and around Kempton Park in Gauteng. He extended condolences to affected families, saying the incidents are causing fear, especially among women. Ramaphosa says law enforcement agencies are working urgently to establish facts and bring perpetrators to justice. Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says the cases will gett the necessary attention:

Meanwhile, the Commission for Gender Equality is calling for urgent action following the discovery of the six bodies. Spokesperson Javu Baloyi says women should not have to change their routines or restrict their movement to feel safe. The commission is calling for an immediate safety audit involving police, the municipality, transport authorities and community safety structures. Baloyi says this should assess lighting, surveillance, pedestrian routes, public transport points and police visibility. He has urged residents to provide information that could help identify those responsible.

# The DA says Social Development minister Dina Pule must be held accountable after ignoring the Public Protector’s remedial action. Communications and Digital Technologies minister Solly Malatsi has ordered the recovery of over 15-thousand-rand from businessman Phosane Mngqibisa, who accompanied Pule overseas in 2013 when she was Communications minister. The DA’s Nazley Sharif says Pule was required to ensure that every cent was repaid to the department, but failed to do so:

# Motorsport: The organisers of the Formula One Spanish Grand Prix are prepared to make changes to the new Madring circuit for next year following this weekend’s inaugural race. Drivers complained about the lack of overtaking opportunities while spectators also criticised access to the venue and the facilities on social media. Madring managing director Luis Garcia Abad says the governing body, the FIA, has clearly defined the way to improve the track layout, adding they have the space to make improvements.

# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-27-cents and the euro at 18-rand-77-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-92-cents and Bitcoin trades at 76-thousand-951-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-275-dollars-52-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 108-dollars-29-cents a barrel.

# And finally: The Nelson Mandela University in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape is on track to source about 80-percent of its electricity from renewable energy by May next year. The institution will receive up to 55-percent from electricity trader Etana, while its own 4.4-megawatt solar project will contribute up to 30-percent. The shift follows severe load-shedding, which saw the university rely heavily on diesel generators. The initiative is expected to save up to 12-million-rand annually and cut carbon emissions by about 12-thousand tonnes.
