# Acting Police minister Firoz Cachalia expressed deep concern after the discovery of women’s bodies in the Kempton Park, Gauteng. He will meet with acting national commissioner Puleng Dimpane and investigators today for a briefing on evidence gathered. Cachalia says while it must be established if cases are linked, urgent attention is demanded. Spokesperson Kamogelo Mogotsi appealed to anyone with information to come forward:

The Freedom Front Plus is also deeply concerned with the number of woman killed in the area. The party’s Jaco Mulder says over the last two months, the women believed to have been murdered were found partially undressed with chilling similarities. He welcomes the police multidisciplinary task team but calls for increased visible law enforcement along the R21 and surrounding areas:

# Union federation SAFTU says the weekend’s deadly accidents are a reminder of the continuing national road death crisis. A crash on the N1 between Prince Albert Road and Leeu-Gamka in the Western Cape claimed 21 lives, while in Mpumalanga, eight people were killed on the N17 toll road near Ermelo. SAFTU’s Asive Dyani says there must be accountability where negligence, unsafe vehicles, excessive speed or driver fatigue are established:

# Between February 28 and June 30, the US war against Iran has cost an estimated 545-billion-rand, with 364-billion-rand of that spent on expended munitions alone. This is according to the Defence Department’s inspector general’s report, which reveals that the expenditure of ammunition during the conflict has resulted in strategic inventory shortfalls and industrial base bottlenecks for resupply. The inspector general has also noted major physical damage to American diplomatic facilities in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates from Iranian strikes.

# Soccer: Manager José Mourinho has praised Arda Guler as an incredible player, but says the Turkish midfielder faces a tough battle for regular game time at Real Madrid. Guler has impressed since joining Fenerbahce, but competition remains fierce. Mourinho says the 21-year-old has the talent to become an important player, while acknowledging that breaking into a star-studded side takes time. Guler has also attracted interest from other European clubs, but Mourinho believes he can establish himself at the Spanish giants if he continues to develop.

# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-33-cents and the euro at 18-rand-84-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand and Bitcoin trades at 76-thousand-825-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-267-dollars-31-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 109-dollars-55-cents a barrel.
