# The ANC has raised concerns over what it describes as escalating instability within the Department of Basic Education since the DA appointed minister Siviwe Gwarube took over in 2024. The ANC’s NEC Subcommittee on Education, Health, Science and Technology says a recent meeting identified what it calls a sustained pattern of conduct by the Minister that is undermining stability within the department. The party says initial disagreements between Gwarube and sector structures have since developed into actions that it believes contradict approved government policies, legal mandates and established administrative practices.
