# ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa says allegations of vote-buying at party conferences are unacceptable. Last month, senior ANC member and national executive committee member Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma accused secretary-general Fikile Mbalula and Ramaphosa of buying delegates to ensure that they won the 2022 elective conference. Speaking on the sidelines of a door-to-door campaign in Tembisa yesterday, Ramaphosa said that as they renew the ANC, vote-buying is one of the areas where they must root it out wherever it exists:

# The Motor Industry Staff Association is deeply concerned about a governance crisis at the Motor Industry Fund Administrators, following the reported suspension of CEO Lihle Khoza. This follows allegations about board fees, an internal investigation, and an attempt to block an inspection by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority. The association’s Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says members are angry that the Motor Industry Retirement Fund has remained silent and taken no visible action over the allegations:

# According to the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse, the Parliamentary Monitoring Group will take over ParliMeter, a platform designed to strengthen public oversight of Parliament. ParliMeter lets the public track members of Parliament’s attendance, bills, committee meetings, and questions to ministers. OUTA’s Rachel Fischer says the platform’s next phase will focus on improving public access to parliamentary information and helping citizens, journalists and civil society hold Parliament accountable.

# The Gauteng Department of Health says it has made progress in keeping people on HIV and tuberculosis treatment during the 2025/2026 financial year. More than one million HIV patients remained on treatment, while over 27-thousand TB patients received treatment. The department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, says improved tracing of patients who miss appointments and treatment reminders helped boost these numbers. Mabona added that HIV viral suppression also improved among adults and children:

# German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has accused the far-right Alternative for Germany party of advocating anti-migration policies that were ‌tantamount to “ethnic cleansing”. He addressed Parliament following his party, the Christian Democratic Union’s bruising defeat in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt, where AfD won almost 44-percent of the vote. Merz says the AfD has harmed German interests by supporting Russia. He added that the party’s “remigration” policy will affect millions, meaning that no single care home, hospital or restaurant could function.

# Cricket: Top-order batter Jordan Hermann impressed on his debut as South Africa cruised to a 99-run victory over Namibia on the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern method in the first ODI in Windhoek. Hermann scored 150 from 126 balls, equalling the record for the highest score on an ODI debut, and shared a second-wicket partnership of 190 with Tony de Zorzi as the Proteas posted 348 for six. In reply, Namibia were restricted to 162 for eight. The second of three ODI games will be played in Windhoek on Friday.

# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-3-cents and the euro at 18-rand-66-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-73-cents and Bitcoin trades at 78-thousand-18-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-399-dollars-90-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 103-dollars-34-cents a barrel.
