WCED warns teachers about recruitment scam

# The Western Cape Education Department is warning teachers about a scam offering fake teaching posts in exchange for money. Scammers use WhatsApp messages impersonating school principals or district officials, promising permanent positions and requesting an approximately two-thousand-800-rand authorisation fee. The WCED spokesperson Bronagh Hammond says legitimate appointments never require payment emphasising that permanent posts are advertised through its official E-Recruitment System, while temporary appointments are managed by schools. She has urged teachers to verify offers and report suspicious activity immediately to the WCED and SAPS.
