# Panic has reportedly gripped the ANC’s Eastern Cape stronghold after party candidate lists missed the Electoral Commission’s deadline. Branches in OR Tambo, Alfred Nzo and Chris Hani regions fear being excluded from the November municipal elections. Sources say internal disputes over candidate selection delayed submission. Some councillor hopefuls arrived at IEC offices after the cut-off. The ANC’s provincial office says it is engaging the IEC for clarity and communities now await a final decision. The IEC says deadlines apply equally to all parties

# The sentencing of convicted serial murderer Rosemary Ndlovu and her co-accused, Nomsa Mudau, has been postponed to 15 September in the Kempton Park Regional Court in Gauteng. They were in May found guilty of incitement to commit murder in connection with the 2018 plot to murder Mudau’s then husband, Justice. The court heard the hitman warned the victim instead. Ndlovu is already serving six life sentences plus 125 years for 2021 murders linked to insurance payouts. The case is linked to a wider probe into insurance killings.

# Union federation SAFTU rejects the attempt to portray Eskom’s financial performance as an unqualified success. The power utility achieved roughly 30.35-billion-rand in profit for the previous financial year, more than doubling its 14-billion-rand profit of the previous year. SAFTU’s Asive Dyani says Eskom’s profitability is a consequence of making electricity progressively more expensive for households and businesses that are already under severe financial strain:

# The International Trade Administration Commission has requested provisional measures of up to 28.11-percent on colour-coated steel imports from China. The measures, implemented by the South African Revenue Service, will remain in place for six months. Producers ArcelorMittal South Africa and Safal Steel had complained that Chinese steel was being dumped in the Southern African Customs Union market, causing material injury to local producers. Itac has invited interested parties to submit written comments on its preliminary findings within 14 days.

# Soccer: SAFA has officially announced Pitso Mosimane as Bafana Bafana’s new head coach. The three-time Champions League winner returns for a second permanent stint, replacing Hugo Broos. Mosimane’s immediate challenge is the qualifiers for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations, drawn alongside Guinea, Eritrea and Kenya in Group D. SAFA president Danny Jordaan says the national team remains a major brand, with the 2030 World Cup among its long-term priorities:

# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-15-cents and the euro at 18-rand-72-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-86-cents and Bitcoin trades at 77-thousand-910-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-379-dollars-16-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 94-dollars-20-cents a barrel.
