# The GOOD Party says the City of Cape Town has failed to develop and upgrade BM Section Informal Settlement in Khayelitsha, 13 years after a devastating fire incident. The fire that ripped through the informal settlement on New Year’s Day in 2013 killed five people and left over three-thousand people displaced. GOOD’s secretary general, Brett Herron, says then-mayor Patricia de Lille responded to the disaster by establishing a crisis committee to secure permanent housing for families who lost everything:
