# The Forum for South Africa says unemployment is a social crisis that contributes to poverty, crime, inequality, substance abuse and hopelessness among millions of South Africans. According to StatsSA the official unemployment rate increased from 32.7-percent in the first quarter of this year to 33.6-percent in the second quarter.
