Western Cape MEC proposes dignity basket to replace outdated free basic services model

# Western Cape MEC for Local Government, Environmental Affairs, and Development Planning, Anton Bredell, has called for a new funding agreement between national and provincial government to improve basic services for vulnerable households. According to the MEC, the current free basic services policy is outdated. Bredell proposes a dignity basket that would increase the amount of free water and electricity provided to qualifying households. He also called for stronger action against corruption and poor governance to ensure services reach communities.
