# A man pleads for the release of his pregnant South African fiancé in US custody

# The fiancé of pregnant South African woman Nqobile Malangeni is pleading for her release after she was detained by US immigration authorities in Las Vegas. She remains in custody after being detained on 30 July while preparing to fly to Connecticut. US Immigration and Customs Enforcement says Malangeni overstayed her stay and is subject to a final removal order. Her unnamed fiancé, a former US armed forces member, says they planned to marry and fears he may not meet their child if she is deported.
# The Gauteng legislature’s portfolio committee on Community Safety has commended law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation into the weekend’s Reiger Park shootings. A person of interest was taken in for questioning yesterday in relation to the murder of two Anti-Gang Unit officials and two civilians. The committee’s chairperson, Bandile Masuku, says the recovery of the officials’ stolen firearms is particularly important:
# Government has urged the public to remain vigilant and exercise extreme caution as severe winter weather affects parts of the country, including heavy snowfall, freezing conditions, rain and strong winds. Several roads were closed and disruptions due to snow and heavy rain are experienced in several provinces. Government deputy spokesperson, William Baloyi, says the National Disaster Management Centre is monitoring the situation and coordinating response measures in affected areas:
# Rugby: Sharks head coach JP Pietersen has made two injury-enforced changes for tonight’s clash against the All Blacks at Kings Park in Durban. Emile van Heerden has a niggle and Springbok utility forward Vincent Tshituka has concussion. Deon Slabbert comes in for Van Heerden in the starting line-up while Corné Rahl replaces Tshituka on the bench. Pietersen has defended selecting 44-year-old All Blacks great Ma’a Nonu, who joined the Sharks last week:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-26-cents and the euro at 18-rand-75-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-95-cents and Bitcoin trades at 63-thousand-985-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-361-dollars-50-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 92-dollars-82-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Gauteng, the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal has the most dissatisfied consumers, accounting for 78-percent of all complaints lodged with the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud. The ombud received 15-thousand-355 complaints between 1 March 2025 and 28 February this year, a 25.8-percent increase from the 12-thousand-207 complaints recorded in the previous financial year. According to the report, the biggest complaints received were on defective goods, cancellations and delivery problems.
