Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# We start with Cricket: South Africa reached 80 for four in their first innings at stumps on day two of the first Test against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui. Rachin Ravindra continued a remarkable return to the Test format by reaching his maiden double-century, 240 off 366 balls, as the Black Caps were bowled out for 511 in their first innings. Captain Neil Brand claimed six wickets. In reply, David Bedingham is unbeaten on 29 as South Africa trails New Zealand by 431 runs with six wickets remaining.
Meanwhile, defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape beat the Paarl Royals by five wickets in Gqeberha, to finish the round-robin stage at the top of the SA20 table. Joseph Buttler topped scored with 38 as the Royals posted 159 for seven in their 20 overs. In reply, Temba Bavuma shared a 63-run partnership with captain Aiden Markram, and Patrick Kruger finished unbeaten on 25 from seven deliveries to help the Sunrisers to victory. Kruger says as a team they enjoy chasing games:
# Rugby: England fly-half, George Ford, says there has been a mindset shift in defence and attack in the team that is enjoyable to be a part of. Steve Borthwick’s side narrowly defeated Italy 27-25 in their opening Six Nations match in Rome. At last year’s World Cup, England was criticised for kicking the ball away and not showing enough ambition with the ball in hand. Ford says their intent now is to get behind the ball, attack the defence, and score tries. England’s next game is against Wales at Twickenham on Saturday.
# Golf: Welshman Rhys Enoch won the S-D-C Open after finishing two strokes clear of South African duo Deon Germishuys and Martin Rohwer at the Zebula Golf Estate and Spa in Limpopo. South African Dylan Naidoo finished in fourth on 20 under par, with English duo George Bloor and Chris Paisley one stroke further back in a share of fifth. Enoch, who becomes a two-time Challenge Tour winner says he is happy to be back to winning ways after a difficult two years of injuries:
And in more Golf news, the final round of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in California will happen today after yesterday’s play was cancelled due to severe weather and safety concerns. US Open champion Wyndham Clark of the US holds a one-shot advantage over Switzerland’s Ludvig Åberg at the top of the leaderboard. The winner of last week’s Farmers Insurance Open, France’s Matthieu Pavon, is in third place two shots off the lead. This is the third time in six years that the tournament has gone to a fifth day.
