# Construction has officially begun on the Western Cape government’s 1.2-billion-rand Welmoed Estate housing development in Eerste River. The project is expected to deliver eight-thousand housing opportunities by 2040, with the first phase providing more than three-thousand-200 homes by 2030. Infrastructure MEC Tertuis Simmers says the mixed-use development will also include schools, a clinic, retail space and sports facilities, while creating jobs and boosting the local economy:
