# The DA has approached the High Court in the Western Cape to declare parts of the Expropriation Act invalid. The DA says Sections 19(2) and 19(3) should render the entire law unconstitutional. The party’s legal representative, Karrisha Pillay argues that the Act was adopted through a flawed legislative process and contains irrational provision. She argues that Section 19 contains irrational sequence for handling compensation disputes, making court resolutions nearly impossible:

# The High Court in Johannesburg has heard that police allegedly failed to follow proper legal procedures when arresting accused one, Musa Kekana, in the attempted murder trial involving Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and four co-accused. The trial within a trial is examining the legality of the arrest. Defence attorney Annalene van den Heever argued police contravened the Criminal Procedure Act by not taking Kekana to a police station immediately after his arrest:

# Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane says the province is well positioned to become a leading renewable energy hub. Speaking at the South Africa-China Electricity and Energy Investment Summit in China, Mabuyane highlighted the province’s wind, solar and green hydrogen potential. He told the SABC that Western Cape and Northern Cape provinces partnerships and a planned 500-kilometre transmission line will improve infrastructure, drive industrialisation, attract investment and unlock economic growth:

# Thousands of migrants remain stranded in Spain’s North African enclave of Ceuta after a massive border crossing from Morocco last week. Hundreds have set up camp on local beaches as reception centres struggle to cope. Spanish authorities say nearly 70-thousand migrants have already been returned to Morocco, while the death toll has risen to 83. The crisis has sparked diplomatic tensions within the European Union. EU Interior ministers are expected to hold an emergency meeting, as Spain calls for greater support in managing the unfolding humanitarian situation.

# Rugby: Cape Town high schools Fairmont and Settlers have both launched investigations after a match was abandoned due to an alleged racial incident. The referee stopped play after the allegation surfaced, but neither school has confirmed what was said or who was involved. They urged the public not to share or comment on a video of the incident, warning it could compromise the process. The Western Cape Education Department supports the investigation and will provide counselling if needed. No findings or disciplinary action have yet been announced.

# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-49-cents against the rand and the euro at 19-rand-1-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-19-cents and Bitcoin trades at 63-thousand-132-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-30-dollars-93-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 87-dollars-8-cents a barrel.
