# The Cape Town’s Public Emergency Communication Centre recorded 182-thousand-131 incidents in several critical categories in the past year. Medical incidents, assault, prank calls, domestic violence, child abuse, motor vehicle and pedestrian vehicle accidents were reported. Mayoral committee member for Safety and Security, JP Smith says the statistics are of concern as some of the categories offer a window into some of most challenging social challenges, like road safety, interpersonal violence and the ongoing headache of prank calls:
