# First up, rugby: Springboks’ head coach Rassie Erasmus is breathing a sigh of relief after his much-changed team struggled through their Nations Championships game against Scotland at Loftus. While the Boks won 42-28, he says the team showed where the gaps were and what needed to be learned. Erasmus says it’s much nicer when you win and learn than when you lose and learn. He adds they knew cohesion would be a problem with 12 players who had fewer than ten caps.

Meanwhile, Junior Springbok coach, Kevin Foote, says they have prepared well for tonight’s Junior World Championship semifinal against England in Tbilisi, Georgia. He has made four changes to the side that defeated Wales in their final Pool A encounter, with six forwards and two backs on the bench. Foote says they have selected an exciting team and a combination best suited to their game model against a very good English side:

# Soccer: German coach Ernst Middendorp has urged South African governing body SAFA not to retain Hugo Broos in another role within the Bafana Bafana technical team after he stepped down as head coach. He says any new coach should be given full authority and independence to build the team without the influence of a predecessor. Middendorp explained Broos should either remain head coach or leave the setup entirely, warning his continued presence could undermine the new technical leadership’s authority and identity.

# Cricket: Brendon McCullum will step down as England’s Test head coach, bringing an end to a four-year tenure. This follows a string of poor results, including the 4-1 Ashes series defeat to Australia late last year, and several off-field incidents. England have lost eight of their last 12 Tests under the 44-year-old and won only three following the recent 2-1 home series loss to New Zealand. McCullum, who will continue to lead the men’s white-ball teams, says he is gutted but immensely proud of what they achieved as a team.

# And tennis: World number one Jannik Sinner has become the tenth player to successfully defend his Wimbledon men’s singles title. The Italian defeated German Alexander Zverev in four sets to clinch his fifth Grand Slam title. Zverev, who won the French Open last month, was attempting to become the first man since 1968 to win his second Grand Slam at the next event immediately after his first. Sinner says winning Wimbledon again is special:
