# Western Cape MEC for Cultural Affairs and Sport Ricardo Mackenzie has expressed condolences following the deaths of footballer Jayden Adams and rugby player Luqobo Makwedini. Adams was a Bafana Bafana midfielder who represented South Africa in the current FIFA World Cup, and Makwedini, was a former SA Under-18 rugby player. Mackenzie says their passing is a loss to their families, teammates and South Africa’s sporting community. He described the athletes as role models who inspired young people through dedication and hard work, and leave behind lasting legacies.
