IEC faces questions over its own use of AI election content

# The Electoral Commission of South Africa is facing criticism after warning political parties about the use of artificial intelligence in election content, while later posting an AI-altered image of its own. The IEC has urged stakeholders to ensure responsible use of AI and prevent misleading information ahead of the local government elections. The commission says generative AI poses a growing risk through deepfakes and targeted disinformation. The IEC has invited South Africans including political parties to submit written comments on its draft digital campaign rules. The deadline is 22nd July.
