# The Activists and Citizens Forum has applauded the Madlanga Commission for continuing with its work without the police crime intelligence boss, Feroz Khan. Khan sustained catastrophic internal injuries when he was shot in Houghton, Johannesburg, last week. Forum spokesperson, Dennis Bloem, says evidence from Khan’s devices and presented by evidence leader Adila Hassim before the Commission, is probably causing Khan and his friends sleepless nights. He says that with prominent politicians implicated, more bombshells can be expected:

# Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities minister, Sindisiwe Chikunga, announced that the government has appointed Lady Mariéme Jamme as Special Envoy for Technology and Artificial Intelligence. The department’s spokesperson, Cassius Selala, says the appointment reinforces South Africa’s vision of a digitally inclusive society where technological innovation drives opportunity, equality, economic participation, and sustainable development. Lady Mariéme Jamme will serve as a global representative and trusted advisor, supporting South Africa’s engagement with governments, multilateral institutions, academia, investors, and industry leaders.

# Gauteng Finance MEC Nkululeko Dunga says the province’s municipal audit outcomes have regressed, with only two of the eleven municipalities achieving clean audits in the 2024/2025 financial year. Across the province, municipalities incurred 14.4-billion-rand in irregular expenditure, while cumulative irregular expenditure during the current administration has reached 45.92-billion-rand. Dunga says poor financial management is directly affecting service delivery. He says Tshwane has the highest irregular expenditure of any municipality in the province:

# The National Union of Mineworkers has condemned the death threats directed at its Branch Chairperson at Impala Mine in Rustenburg, North West. It says these threats have occurred amidst the union’s ongoing struggle to secure organisational rights for its members. The union says this incident takes place against the backdrop of a protracted organisational rights dispute, where NUM has been pursuing lawful recognition in terms of the Labour Relations Act. NUM maintains that workers have a constitutional right to freely choose a trade union without fear, intimidation, victimisation, or violence.

# Mourners who attended the second day of a public funeral for Iran’s slain supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei at the Grand Mosque on Sunday called for revenge. A week of mass funeral processions is being staged across Iran and Iraq for Khamenei, who was killed along with four members of his family on the first day of the US and Israeli war on 28 February. Holding Iranian flags and pictures of their martyred leader, the crowds called for US president Donald Trump’s killing and chanted “Death to America” and “Death to Israel”.

# Golf: South Africa’s Michael Hollick won the BMW International Open in Munich, Germany, his maiden DP World Tour title in his rookie season. The 39-year-old closed with a final-round 67 to seal a one-shot victory over his compatriot Hennie Du Plessis, with Austria’s Bernd Wiesberger finishing third. France’s Oihan Guillamoundeguy and Mexico’s Carlos Ortiz finished tied for fourth. Hollick, who is the fifth different South African winner on the DP World Tour this season, says it’s been a long and difficult journey:

# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-21-cents and the euro at 18-rand-55-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-65-cents and Bitcoin trades at 63-thousand-569-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-188-dollars-62-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 72-dollars-11-cents a barrel.
