# President Cyril Ramaphosa says measures are in place to ensure that 30 June will be a normal working day despite the planned illegal immigration protests. Responding to questions in the National Council of Provinces, Ramaphosa said security forces are ready to maintain order and support stability nationwide. He assured the council that the government is committed to maintaining calm and order and does not expect any disruption:

# ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula says migration is testing the principles of the Freedom Charter and is placing pressure on national unity and the rule of law. Briefing the media on the outcomes of the party’s national working committee, Mbalula said the government is dealing firmly with undocumented migration, with more than 110-thousand deportations carried out this year. He also highlighted growing community tensions linked to migration and enforcement measures:

# Former MK Party members Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla and Nhlamulo Ndhlela have filed papers in the South Gauteng High Court, challenging their removal from the party. They are seeking to have their expulsions set aside, arguing that the decision to terminate their membership should be reviewed and reversed. In court papers, the duo argues that they were expelled without being formally charged, given notice, or afforded a disciplinary hearing. Zuma-Sambudla and Ndhela were dismissed from the party after being accused of gross misconduct. 

# Parliament’s portfolio committee on Correctional Services says it will closely monitor the state takeover of the Mangaung Correctional Centre in the Free State when the Department of Correctional Services assumes full control next month. Briefed the media on security matters, committee chairperson Anthea Ramolobeng says concerns remain around staff recruitment, security, infrastructure repairs and the possible absorption of G4S employees:

# The US Supreme Court has ruled that president Donald Trump’s administration can end legal protections for migrants fleeing violence and natural disaster in Haiti and Syria. The termination of the Temporary Protected Status will affect as many as 350-thousand Haitians and six-thousand Syrians in America. Meanwhile, in a separate ruling, the court has revived a controversial policy that aims to curb the number of asylum seekers processed at the US-Mexico border. Migrants will not be entitled to apply for asylum until they set foot in America.

# Rugby: Experienced prop Rambo Kubheka will lead the Junior Springboks when they face Uruguay in their opening Pool A match of the 2026 World Rugby Junior World Championship in Tbilisi, Georgia, on Saturday. With squad captain Siphosethu Mnebelele named among the replacements, Kubheka takes over the leadership duties for the SA U-20s’ first pool match of the tournament. Junior Bok coach Kevin Foote has opted for a split of five forwards and three backs on the replacements bench for this clash against their South American opponents. Kick-off is at 6:30 pm.

# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-47-cents and the euro at 18-rand-73-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-73-cents and Bitcoin trades at 59-thousand-680-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-29-dollars-3-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 74-dollars-53-cents a barrel.
