In this bulletin:
# The Siyafana Sonke Action Campaign demands the immediate arrest of anti-migrant ringleaders
# Four people appear in court for four murders in Gqeberha
# And Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel must free itself from dependence on American weapons
# Siyafana Sonke Action Campaign has requested an urgent meeting with the Presidency and key government structures to discuss an immediate end to discriminatory violence ahead of Tuesday’s planned nationwide demonstrations. Spokesperson Tauriq Jenkins says they demand the immediate arrest of vigilante ringleaders, specifically leaders of Operation Dudula and March and March, Zandile Dubula, Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, Nkosikhona Ndabandaba, and Ngizwe Mchunu, for inciting violence and hatred, assault, unlawful searches and other crimes:
Forum for South Africa has meanwhile criticised the allocation of 600-million-rand to strengthen security measures ahead of the protest. KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, the Eastern Cape and the Western Cape have been flagged as potential hotspots for violence. FOSA leader, Tebogo Mashilompane, has described this expenditure as panic spending, political posturing, and a potential looting opportunity disguised as a special operation to protect the country:
# Four men appeared in an Eastern Cape court in connection with the murder of four people in Kwadwesi, Gqeberha, earlier this month. Attackers entered a house and opened fire, killing a man and three women, and wounding two people. The men appeared briefly in the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and attempted murder. The case has been postponed to Monday for formal bail applications. Police’s acting district commissioner, Loyiso Ngalo, applauded the arrests.
Moving abroad:
# Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel needs to be free from military dependence on the US and develop its own weapons-production capabilities. Since 2008, America has provided Israel with roughly 62.8-billion-rand in military aid anually as part of a memorandum of understanding. The ten-year agreement runs through 2028. Netanyahu has framed the push for military self-sufficiency as part of a broader effort to build long-term national power. He also wants Israel to introduce more technology and train more generations of military commanders.
# Cricket: Proteas all-rounder Marizanne Kapp believes the best is still to come from the team after reviving their hopes of reaching the T20 World Cup’s semifinals. South Africa secured a crucial six-wicket victory over India on Sunday after a 65-run defeat to Australia in their opener, followed by a narrow victory over Pakistan. The Proteas need big victories over the Netherlands and Bangladesh to improve their net-run rate in case India wins its remaining fixtures as well. Kapp says only their best performance will do.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-62-cents and the euro at 18-rand-85-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-91-cents and Bitcoin trades at 62-thousand-611-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-and-70-dollars-44-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 75-dollars-27-cents a barrel.
