# Kopanang Africa Against Xenophobia condemns what it describes as a worsening humanitarian crisis affecting migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers displaced by xenophobic violence. The organisation’s Mike Ndlovu says hundreds of vulnerable people, including women and children, have been left without adequate shelter and support. Ndlovu calls on government to provide protection, humanitarian assistance, and safe accommodation while taking decisive action against those responsible for attacks:
# Forum for South Africa has noted with serious concern the decision by National Assembly speaker Thoko Didiza to file a notice to abide by president Cyril Ramaphosa’s application for an urgent interdict aimed at halting the work of the impeachment committee. FOSA leader Tebogo Mashilompane says this so-called neutral stance is nothing but a failure of leadership at a critical moment for accountability in South Africa:
# Johannesburg police have opened a housebreaking and theft case after burglars targeted the home of suspended police Divisional Commissioner for Supply Chain Management, Molefe Fani. Suspects allegedly stole several electronic devices, including his laptop. No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing. Fani is currently suspended following findings by the Special Investigating Unit linking him to alleged procurement irregularities, wasteful expenditure and conflicts of interest involving multimillion-rand government tenders.
Johannesburg police are also investigating a burglary at the Bryanston home of senior advocate Muzi Sikhakhane. Intruders allegedly broke into his private office and stole computers and laptops. No injuries were reported. It remains unclear whether sensitive legal documents or client information were targeted, or if it was a routine break-in. Sikhakhane is known for representing several high-profile figures, including former president Jacob Zuma, KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, and Eastern Cape Judge President Selby Mbenenge. No arrests have been made.
# Soccer: Argentina’s captain, Lionel Messi, is going for an all-time World Cup record in today’s group match against Austria in Dallas. He equalled German Miroslav Klose’s record of 16 goals in World Cup tournaments when he scored a hat-trick against Algeria. Messi, who turns 39 on Wednesday, hopes to spearhead his country to becoming the first since Brazil in 1962 to successfully defend their title. Argentina currently leads Group J, followed by Austria, Jordan and Algeria. Kick-off at Arlington in Dallas is at 7pm, South African time.
