# EFF leader Julius Malema has called on Parliament’s independent impeachment committee to challenge president Cyril Ramaphosa’s urgent court bid to halt proceedings linked to the Phala Phala matter. His remarks follow legal advice from Parliament’s Constitutional and Legal Services Office this morning, recommending the committee opposes the application and continues its work, but remain independent and impartial in its constitutional duties. Malema says the process should not be delayed:
# A Canadian guest has been fatally wounded in the Kruger National Park last night. The incident happened at a concession-operated picnic area in the vicinity of Phabeni Gate. SANParks spokesperson JP Louw says a private guide attached to the concession operator allegedly accidentally discharged a firearm, resulting in the fatal injury of the 69-year-old guest. He says the concession has a valid permit to operate the facility:
# Forum for South Africa has welcomed John Steenhuisen’s removal as minister of Agriculture. DA leader Geordin Hill-Lewis announced a series of changes to the party’s representation in government, including Willie Aucamp replacing Steenhuisen. FOSA leader, Tebogo Masholompane, says Steenhuisen has failed South African farmers in his handling of the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak, and Aucamp must prioritise disease control, agricultural biosecurity, and accelerate genuine land reform:
# Eskom CEO Dan Marokane says favourable policy, infrastructure planning and investor interest have created ideal conditions for the success to launch gas-to-power opportunities in South Africa. Speaking at the Africa Energy Forum in Cape Town, he said the first gas-to-power procurement round attracted bids exceeding the two-thousand-megawatt target. Marokane says gas will strengthen energy security, support renewable energy expansion and drive industrial growth. He warns South Africa must act quickly to seize this opportunity.
