# Over one-thousand Malawians processed at a Durban repatriation site were found to be undocumented

# The Department of Home Affairs says the first one-thousand-140 Malawian nationals processed at a repatriation site in Durban were found to be in South Africa illegally. Two-thousand-745 repatriations have been carried out by various countries since president Cyril Ramaphosa’s address on migration and illegal immigration earlier this month. The department’s deputy minister, Njabulo Nzuza, says those who were found to have legal status were advised to return to the communities where they had been living:
# Legal Aid South Africa has assured the public that it services will continue this coming Wednesday as the South African Lawyers and Allied Workers Union embark on industrial action. Legal Aid spokesperson Pateka Quwe, says they respect the constitutional rights of employees to participate in this lawful and protected industrial action as provided for in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa and the Labour Relations Act:
# The Road Traffic Management Corporation says South Africa’s vehicle licensing system could shift to a fully digital model, removing the need for windscreen licence discs. Spokesperson Simon Zwane says the system would allow traffic officers to access vehicle and compliance data electronically through number-plate recognition tools. He says the move aims to curb fraud involving fake discs and modernise enforcement. He says no implementation date has been announced, but the system is expected to integrate with existing electronic traffic-fining technology.
# Nine people were killed and several others injured in a wave of Russian strikes on Ukraine, with a major religious landmark in the capital Kyiv catching fire. The 11th Century Dormition Cathedral was significantly damaged in what Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Svyrydenko called a brutal assault on the people and heritage of the country. The Dormition Cathedral is part of an architectural ensemble of monastic buildings declared a Unesco World Heritage Site.
# Rugby: The Cheetahs are reportedly set to sign versatile back Henry Immelman and utility forward Simon Miller. Thirty-one-year-old Immelman, who spent five years with French club Montpellier before moving to Edinburgh in Scotland, joined the Bulls in 2023 but has struggled for game time. Twenty-five-year-old Miller is currently playing for Japan’s Shizuoka Blue Revs.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-20-cents against the rand and the euro at 18-rand-80-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-73-cents and Bitcoin trades at 66-thousand-213-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-340-dollars-19-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 82-dollars-44-cents a barrel.
