# Road running: George Kusche has won the 2026 Comrades Marathon, storming to victory in the up run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg in a record time of 5 hours, 15 minutes and 56 seconds. Kusche produced a perfectly paced race, overtaking long-time leader Mbuti Mollo on the challenging Polly Shorts climb with just over ten-kilometres remaining. Defending champion Piet Wiersma finished second, while Mollo held on for third place. Gerda Steyn won the women’s race claiming her fifth overall title and fourth consecutive victory.
