# Union federation Cosatu has welcomed Cabinet’s decision to officially approve the complete write-off of all outstanding and unpaid historical e-toll debt in Gauteng. This follows the government’s decision to discontinue the electronic tolling system on the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project, which took effect on 12 April 2024. Cosatu’s Amos Monyela says the scrapping of e-tolls represents a critical step towards restoring fairness and easing the economic strain on workers who rely on road transport to access their workplaces daily:
