Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# First up we have golf news: Switzerland’s Chiara Tamburlini won the Joburg Ladies Open by seven shots at the Modderfontein Golf Club, the largest margin of victory in the tournament’s ten-year history. This is her maiden Ladies European Tour title. Thailand’s Aunchisa Utama took second place on ten-under-par with a final round of 71, while Nicole Garcia finished as the leading South African in fifth place on eight-under-par following a final round of 70. Tamburlini says getting her first win is special:
# Motorsport: Formula One team Mercedes’s principal, Toto Wolff, says they will have upgrades to the car for the Miami Grand Prix next weekend. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who is experiencing his worst start to an F1 season, finished ninth in the Chinese Grand Prix with his teammate George Russell in sixth. Wolff says major changes are needed to the car as it lacks pace:
# Tennis: Norwegian third seed Casper Ruud won the Barcelona Open to clinch his eleventh career title. The 25-year-old beat fifth-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece 7-5, 6-3 in the final to win the biggest title of his career. The victory also avenged the Norwegian’s defeat to Tsitsipas in last week’s final of the Monte Carlo Open. Ruud says he is happy to capture his first title of the year:
# Soccer: Manchester United survived a spirited comeback from Coventry City to win on penalties and reach another FA Cup final. The Reds were three-nil up in the 70th minute, but Coventry staged a late second-half comeback to take the match to extra-time. United eventually came out on top in a penalty shootout, winning four-two, to set up a repeat of last year’s final against Manchester City. United manager, Erik ten Hag, says it’s not an embarrassment to nearly lose to a Championship side:
# And finally: Cricket: The Kolkata Knight Riders have moved to second place in the Indian Premier League standings following their one-run victory over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Kolkata posted 222 for six with captain Shreyas Iyer scoring a half century. In reply, RCB were bowled out for 221, suffering their seventh defeat in eight games. Meanwhile, in Mullanpur, Sai Kishore took four wickets to guide the Gujarat Titans to a three-wicket victory over the Punjab Kings.
