Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# First up is rugby news: Springbok Sevens coach Philip Snyman is extremely proud of his team’s ‘never say die’ attitude. The Blitzboks defeated Fiji 10-7 to win the American tournament in New York and seal the 2026 World Sevens Series title. Snyman praised the squad for embracing his vision of building depth by introducing new players. He adds there is still a lot to play for, including the three tournaments of the World Championship:
On to 15-aside rugby: England’s coach, Steve Borthwick, remains adamant he is the right man for the job. England lost four games in the Six Nations for the first time to finish fifth, their worst-ever performance in the competition. France was crowned champions. Borthwick, who is set to face a review on his team’s performance, says he is the right man to lead the team heading into the 2027 World Cup:
# Motorsport: MotoGP has confirmed the Qatari Grand Prix, originally scheduled for next month, has been postponed to 8 November due to the ongoing geopolitical situation in the Middle East. As a result, the Portuguese Grand Prix will now be held on 22 November, with the season finale in Valencia moved to 29 November. MotoGP CEO, Carmelo Ezpeleta, says the decision was taken with the primary objective of ensuring the safety, well-being, and highest‑quality delivery of the event for all participants and attendees.
# Tennis: World number two Jannik Sinner claimed his maiden Indian Wells title, becoming just the third man in history, after Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, to win all six Masters One-thousand hard-court trophies. The Italian defeated Russia’s Daniil Medvedev. In the women’s draw, world number one Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus defeated Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina to secure her first Indian Wells title. Sinner is happy for his first title of the year:
And the world number three, Novak Djokovic, has withdrawn from the Miami Open in the US after suffering a shoulder injury. The 38-year-old Serbian participated in the Indian Wells Masters last week, where he lost to Britain’s Jack Draper in the fourth round in his first tournament since losing to world number one, Carlos Alcaraz of Spain, in the final of the Australian Open in January. Djokovic has won the Miami title six times. The second leg of the so-called Sunshine Double starts tomorrow.
