# Road running: Cape Town’s iconic Two Oceans Marathon is raising the stakes this year, announcing a combined prize purse of 2.6-million-rand. The ultra marathon will offer 2.1-million-rand in prize money and the half marathon over 420-thousand-rand. The marathon’s chairperson, Chris Goldschmidt, says by increasing the prize purse for 2026, they are recognising the dedication and talent of elite athletes, and also raising the profile of the event on the global stage. The race will take place from 10 to 12 April.
# Soccer: African governing body CAF disciplinary board has imposed sanctions on Senegal and Morocco over their misconduct during the Africa Cup of Nations final. The awarding of a penalty to hosts Morocco led to Senegal walking off the pitch for 17-minutes. The team eventually returned and won in extra time. Senegal has been fined 4.7-million-rand with coach Pape Bouna Thiaw suspended for five matches and fined. Ismaila Sarr and Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye have also been suspended for two matches. Morocco has received a 3.1-million-rand fine.
# Rugby: Veteran French prop Uini Atonia was forced to retire immediately after suffering a heart attack. He withdrew from his club, La Rochelle’s match against Clermont on Sunday after experiencing chest pain during warm-up. The 35-year-old New Zealand-born player is in stable condition in a local hospital. Atonia played 68 Tests for his adopted country since 2014 and was included in coach Fabien Galthie’s initial squad for the defence of their Six Nations title. He won two Six Nations title for France.
# And finally, golf: Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed has announced his intention to return to the tour after quitting LIV Golf. He follows his American compatriot Brooks Koepka in departing the Saudi Arabia-backed series. LIV Golf says it was unable to reach an agreement with Reed on a potential contract extension. The PGA Tour says given that Reed resigned his membership before violating any regulations, he would be eligible to return to competition on August 25 as a non-member. He is seeking reinstatement of his PGA Tour membership for 2027.
