Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# We start off with Rugby: Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus says they won’t underestimate the dangerous Argentina ahead of Saturday’s Rugby Championship clash in Durban. The Boks have won ten of their last 12 matches against the Pumas, dating back to 2018, with their only two defeats being in Argentina last season and in 2018. Erasmus says the Los Pumas pose threats all around, including boasting a strong forward pack and extremely talented backs:
Meanwhile, Argentina’s hopes of causing a similar upset in the Rugby Championship to the one they pulled off in Durban in 2015 got a welcome boost. Flyhalf Tomas Albornoz has joined the squad this week and is likely to start in Durban against the Boks. Albanoz, nicknamed – El Mago Nuevo – the new wizard, has been a huge part of why Felipe Contepomi’s side is so highly regarded. What makes him exceptionally good, is his ability to get his backline going and threading holes into the opposition.
And, the New Zealand coach Scott Robertson has made four changes to the side that suffered a historic defeat to the Springboks, for their Rugby Championship clash against Australia at Eden Park on Saturday. Fabian Holland comes in to replace the injured captain Scott Barrett, while Codie Taylor returns after recovering from injury. The scrum-half duo of Cam Roigard and wing Caleb Clarke are also back, in the only other changes to the starting side. Robertson says he has faith in his players:
# Golf: Two-time major winner Collin Morikawa has dismissed the idea that Team USA receiving payment might mean they have less desire than Team Europe to win the Ryder Cup. Critics have questioned the PGA of America’s decision to pay the US team members for their participation in the Ryder Cup, which gets underway at Bethpage Black in New York on Friday. Morikawa says the payment isn’t about personal gain:
# And Motorsport: Marc Marquez can clinch his seventh MotoGP world championship in Japan at the weekend to underline a season of dominance and match the record of motorcycle great Valentino Rossi. The Spanish Ducati rider is on a whopping 512 points and needs just three points more than his brother Alex Marquez to win the title with five weekends to spare of the 22-race season. The 32-year-old has been in unstoppable form this year and his points total is already a single-season record for a MotoGP rider.
