# We start off with rugby: Rugby: Springbok lock Jean Kleyn has been ruled out for the opening match of the Incoming Series after sustaining an injury during the team’s 54-7 victory over the Barbarians on Saturday. He will return to his Irish club, Munster, to recover and undergo rehabilitation.  The Boks have started their on-field preparations for the first official Test of the season against Italy at Loftus on Saturday. They play Italy again in Gqeberha a week later before the closing match of the series against Georgia in Mbombela on 19 July.

More rugby news: The Junior Springboks scored 11 tries in their Pool A opener against Australia in the World Rugby Under-20 Championship in Italy. Coach Kevin Foote praised his team’s 73-17 victory after they outplayed Australia in the game, which was played in tough conditions. Captain Riley Norton says it was a great victory over a quality Australian side, but they now have their eyes set on Friday’s match against England, who opened their campaign by beating Scotland 56-19. The match is scheduled to start in Rovigo at 6 pm.

# Cricket: Excellent bowling by Wiaan Mulder, Cody Yusuf, and Keshav Maharaj put the Proteas in command after the second day of the first Test against Zimbawe in Bulawayo, despite Sean Williams’s 137. South Africa declared their first innings closed on 418 for nine yesterday morning. The hosts were dismissed for 251 shortly after tea, and at stumps, the Proteas were firmly in control on 49 for one. They started day three with a lead of 216 runs.

# Soccer: Paris Saint-Germain steamrolled Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami 4-0 to reach the Club World Cup quarterfinals, but coach Luis Enrique says defeating Messi and his team was trickier than it seemed. The Spaniard says PSG is in spectacular form and is hoping to triumph in the United States. Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano says he was pleased with his team’s performance and added Messi was able to show his quality despite the defeat. PSG will play Bayern Munich for a place in the last four on Saturday.

# And finally, motorsport: Lando Norris won the Austrian Grand Prix from Oscar Piastri for a dominant McLaren 1-2 yesterday. The Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton took third and fourth as Norris closed the gap on Piastri in the drivers’ championship to 15 points. Norris started on pole and held on for his third victory of the season. Four-time world champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull crashed out on the first lap after a collision with Kimi Antonelli’s Mercedes when the young Italian rookie’s tyres locked up.
