Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# The International Cricket Council has unveiled the complete schedule for the 50-over Women’s World Cup, hosted in five cities across Sri Lanka and India. The two hostesses will face off in the opener in Bengaluru on September 30. Reigning champions Australia will begin their title defence against New Zealand. South Africa will open their campaign against England in Bengaluru on October third before moving to Indore for a clash with New Zealand three days later, followed by a match against India on October ninth.
# Soccer: Mamelodi Sundowns’ coach, Miguel Cardoso, believes the Club World Cup in the US is the ideal level to test themselves. Sundowns is in Group F with South Korea’s Ulsan HD, eight-time Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund, and Brazil’s Fluminense. They kick off their campaign against Ulsan tomorrow. Cardoso says making it out of the group stage would be an incredible achievement:
# Rugby: New Zealand loose forward, Ardie Savea, will play for Kobelco Kobe Steelers in Japan again next year, activating a sabbatical clause in his contract. Kobe finished fifth in Japan Rugby League One this year, 20 points behind champions Toshiba Brave Lupus. Savea will be eligible for the All Blacks’ Tests against France this year and the July Tests next year. New Zealand Rugby says sabbaticals provide flexibility for the most senior players to spend some time in a different environment.
More rugby news: Former England captain Owen Farrell is rejoining his boyhood club, Saracens, on a two-year contract. His return follows a one-year stint with French side Racing 92, where he made 17 appearances, scoring one try and kicking 41 points. Farrell’s return to Saracens means he is available for selection by England for their forthcoming tour of Argentina. Farrell says Saracens is his home, and the opportunity to come back excites him enormously.
# And finally, golf: Five-time major champion, Rory McIlroy, has become the first player to automatically earn a spot in captain Luke Donald’s Team Europe for the Ryder Cup. The Northern Irishman locked up his spot as a result of securing four wins since the European points list began last August. McIlroy will make his eighth consecutive Ryder Cup appearance at the biennial competition, scheduled for September in New York. Donald’s 12-man team will consist of six automatic qualifiers and six captain’s picks.
