# We start off with cricket: Proteas opening batter, Aiden Markram, says they are confident heading into the World Test Championship final against holders Australia at Lord’s, starting on Wednesday. This is despite South Africa not having played a Test in six months. Markram says they know the importance of starting well, trying to get ahead of the game early, and how important each session is going to be:
# Rugby: Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has added Evan Roos to the training squad preparing for the upcoming international window. The 25-year-old last played in the green and gold in the middle of last year when he faced Portugal in Bloemfontein. Roos’s inclusion now extends the squad to 55 players, who assembled in Johannesburg yesterday. The Boks will kick off their season against the Barbarians in Cape Town on the 28th. This will be followed by back-to-back Tests against Italy in Pretoria and Gqeberha, and Georgia in Mbombela in July.
# Golf: South Africa’s Sameul Simpson secured his first victory on the Sunshine Tour by winning the Mopani Zambia Open at the Nkana Golf Club in Zambia. He won by one shot on eleven-under-par after carding a final round 69. Simpson’s compatriot Herman Loubser finished second on ten-under-par. South Africans Luke Jerling, JJ Senekal and Lyle Rowe shared third place on nine under par. This season, Simpson is the second maiden winner on the Sunshine Tour, following Luis Carrera from Mexico.
# Tennis: Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz recovered from two sets down and saved three championship points to beat Italian Jannik Sinner in an epic French Open final. The 22-year-old Spaniard defeated the world number one in five sets in five-hours-and-29 minutes, the longest French Open final in history. Alcaraz, who is the fifth youngest player to win five Grand Slam titles, says belief in himself kept him going:
# And staying with Spanish heroes, motorsport: Six-time MotoGP champion, Marc Marquez, has extended his lead at the top of the riders’ championship following his victory at the Aragon Grand Prix in Spain, his fourth victory of the season. His younger brother Alex settled for second place after holding off Italian Francesco Bagnaia, who finished third. South Africa’s Brad Binder crashed out while hunting a podium finish. Marquez, who has a 32-point lead over his brother, says this was a perfect weekend for him:
