# We start off with Rugby: The Sharks will be without injured Eben Etzebeth and Jason Jenkins for their United Rugby Championship semifinal encounter against the Bulls in Pretoria tomorrow. This means the Durban-based team will have a new lock pairing of Corné Rahl and Emile van Heerden, who replace Etzebeth and Jenkins, respectively. Sharks captain Siya Kolisi says they are expecting a tough match against the Bulls, adding that the ultimate goal is to play the kind of rugby they know they are capable of playing:
And in more Rugby news, Lwazi Zangqa from Border has been named as the new head coach of the SA Schools side, and he will be assisted by the Bulls’ Cobus van Dyk. The SA Schools ‘A’ team will be coached by Flash Malinga of KwaZulu-Natal, with Clinton van Rensburg of Western Province named as his assistant. Zangqa from Hudson Park High School was SA Schools assistant coach last year, while Van Dyk from Hoërskool Waterkloof was one of the specialist coaches for both the SA Schools and SA Schools ‘A’ teams in 2023 and 2024.
# Tennis: South Africa’s Kgothatso Montjane is through to the French Open women’s wheelchair doubles final. The 39-year-old teamed up with Japan’s Yui Kamiji to topple the number one seeds Japan’s Manami Tanaka and China’s Zhenzhen Shu, 6-1, 6-4. Montjane is also through to the singles semifinals following a, 6-2, 6-4, victory against fourth seed China’s Ziying Wang. Another South African, Donald Ramphadi, and his Turkish partner Ahmet Kaplan defeated Britain’s Andy Lapthorne and Sam Schroder of the Netherlands to make the quad wheelchair doubles final.
# Cricket: Former South Africa white-ball coach, Rob Walter, has been named as New Zealand’s new men’s coach, across all formats, for the next three years. He led the Proteas to the semifinals of the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy, as well as the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup. His contract will run through to the conclusion of the T20 World Cup in 2028. Walter says this is an amazing opportunity for him:
# And finally, Roadrunning: National Police Commissioner, Fannie Masemola, has pledged his full support to the 437 police officers who will be participating in the Comrades Marathon on Sunday. The group includes 66 women and 371 men. More than 80 nations will be represented in the race, a down-run over approximately 89 kilometres from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. Police spokesperson, Nonkululeko Phokane, says SAPS is committed to health and wellness within its ranks:
