# We start with golf: World number two Rory McIlroy beat England’s Justin Rose in a play-off to win the Masters at Augusta National, Georgia, and complete a career Grand Slam. The Northern Irishmen birdied the first hole of a sudden death playoff to claim his fifth major and become just the sixth golfer to complete the career Grand Slam after Gary Player, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan and Gene Sarazen. McIlroy says he is honoured and proud to be able to call himself a Masters champion:
Meanwhile, France’s Perrine Delacour carded a final round two-under 70 to win the South African Women’s Open by two shots at the Erinvale Country and Golf Estate in Cape Town. This is her second Ladies European Tour title. South Africa’s Casandra Alexander made a strong charge with her final round of 66 to take second place on 12 under par. Australia’s Kelsey Bennett and England’s Bronte Law shared third place on 11 under par. Delacour says this win is a huge confidence boost for her:
# Tennis: Four-time Grand Slam champion, Carlos Alcaraz, has reclaimed the world number two ranking by winning the Monte-Carlo Masters. The Spaniard defeated Italian Lorenzo Musetti 3-6, 6-1, 6-love to capture his sixth ATP Masters One Thousand title. Italian Jannik Sinner still leads the ATP rankings with Germany’s Alexander Zverev dropping to third. Australia’s Alex de Minaur climbed three spots to seventh, while Russia’s Andrey Rublev moved up to eighth ahead of his compatriot Daniil Medvedev, who makes his return to the top ten in ninth place.
# Motorsport: McLaren’s Oscar Piastri dominated the F1 Bahrain Grand Prix to become the first multiple-race winner of the season. The Australian finished 15 seconds clear of Mercedes’ George Russell, with his teammate Lando Norris in third. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finished fourth and fifth respectively for Ferrari. Norris’ advantage over his teammate Piastri at the top of the world championship has now been reduced to only three points.
And finally, staying with motorsport: Six-time MotoGP world champion, Marc Marquez, has extended his lead at the top of the riders’ championship by winning the Qatar Grand Prix. The Ducati rider finished ahead of Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Maverick Vinales, and VR46 Racing’s Franco Morbidelli. South Africa’s Brad Binder finished 13th place for Red Bull KTM. Marquez, who is 17 points clear at the top of the rider’s standings, says he is happy to win in Qatar for the first time since 2014:
