Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# We start with cricket: The Warriors have been disqualified from the One-Day Cup playoffs for failing to meet Cricket South Africa’s quota requirements. They failed to field three black African players in a game last month and did not inform the authorities. As a result, the Dolphins will take their place in the playoffs. The Warriors were set to play the Titans for a spot in the Division One final. CSA’s Eddie Khoza says other teams received leeway for similar issues when communicated, but the Warriors failed to reach out.
# Rugby: North West University’s Eagles stunned defending champions University of the Free State’s Shimlas 59-14, to record their second consecutive victory in the fourth round of the Varsity Cup. University of Pretoria’s Tuks returned to winning ways by thrashing Central University of Technology 63-23. University of Cape Town’s Ikeys ran in ten tries as they recorded a 73-17 statement victory over the University of Witwatersrand. Meanwhile, the University of Johannesburg’s search for their first win continues after losing 25-7 against the University of Stellenbosch’s Maties.
Other rugby news: Wales has suffered a double blow as wingers Josh Adams and Tom Rogers have been ruled out of Saturday’s Six Nations finale against England in Cardiff. Adams suffered a hamstring injury, while Rogers suffered a fractured thumb during the 35-29 loss to Scotland, and will require surgery. Wales, who had lost their previous 16 Tests, will face an England side that has won their past three games and have a slim chance of winning the Six Nations.
# Soccer: Manchester United’s co-owner, Jim Ratcliffe, says the club would have run out of money by the end of this year if proactive measures were not taken. A mid-season rise in some ticket prices and hundreds of redundancies are among the moves taken by the club, which have attracted criticism. Ratcliffe told BBC Sport his mission is to make United the most profitable club in the world and to do that, difficult decisions need to be taken:
# And finally, tennis: Two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz is through to the round of 16 at the Indian Wells Masters for the fourth consecutive time. The Spaniard beat Canadian Denis Shapovalov. Ninth-seeded Australian Alex de Minaur earned a statement 6-4, 6-love victory over Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz, while former champion, American Taylor Fritz, saw off Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo. In the women’s draw, Australian Open champion Madison Keys of the US defeated Belgium’s Elise Mertens to reach the fourth round.
