Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# We start with cricket: New Zealand is batting first against South Africa in their Champions League semifinal in Lahore, Pakistan. The winner will play India in Sunday’s final after the team defeated Australia by four wickets in Dubai yesterday. Australia was bowled out for 264, with captain Steve Smith scoring 73 and Alex Carey 61. Mohammed Shami took three wickets. In reply, Virat Kohli’s composed 84 off 98 balls helped India reach the target with eleven balls to spare.
# Motorsport: South African crew Brian Baragwanath and co-driver Leonard Cremer, have had their final result from the Dakar Rally held in Saudi Arabia in January disqualified. This is after the fuel sample taken from the car at the end of stage one was found to be not compliant with the regulations. Representatives from Century Racing Factory told a hearing on Monday that the intention to use high-octane fuel was not to gain performance but to protect the engine. Baragwanath and Cremer finished the overall race in tenth place.
More motorsport news: Ferrari’s former technical director, Enrico Cardile, may only start working for Aston Martin in July. This follows after the Italian team won a local court case. Cardile left Ferrari in July last year and the two teams have been in dispute over his starting date at Aston Martin ever since. Ferrari says he already violated the non-compete commitment. It says the purpose of the relevant clause in Cardile’s contract was to prevent other Formula One teams from gaining an unjustified competitive advantage.
# And finally, soccer: French police say Liverpool’s Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain today was not classed as high risk. The last 16 first leg tie at Parc des Princes is the first time Liverpool returns to Paris since the 2022 Champions League final against Real Madrid at the Stade de France was plunged into chaos. That match had to be delayed by more than 30 minutes as fans struggled to enter the stadium. Around two-thousand Liverpool fans will attend today’s game.
