# We start with sevens rugby: Springbok Sevens coach, Philip Snyman, says overall they achieved their objectives despite finishing second in Vancouver, Canada. More rugby news: The Junior Springboks got their two-match series against Georgia off to a winning start, recording a hard-fought 38-29 victory in Tbilisi. The SA Under20s scored six tries and four conversions, while Georgia replied with five tries, while only two were converted. Junior Bok coach, Kevin Foote, says he saw enough in the match to be encouraged, but insists that their maul defence will need to improve. The two teams will meet on Friday in the second and last match of the series.
# Cricket: South Africa can expect a huge battle against Australia in tomorrow’s Champions Trophy match in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. The Proteas impressed when they beat Afghanistan comprehensively in their first match of the tournament on Friday, winning by 107 runs. But Australia rewrote the history books on Saturday, chasing down the huge target of 352 set by England in Lahore. The Baggy Green won by five wickets with 15 balls remaining thanks to Josh Inglis’s century and half-centuries by Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey.
# Soccer: Sport, Arts and Culture minister Gayton McKenzie has reaffirmed that the video assistant referee system will be implemented in South Africa by the end of April. Speaking to SABC Sport, McKenzie stressed that the installation will be completed before the end of the Premier League season. He says the VAR technology aims to improve match officiating, reduce referee corruption and restore integrity in South African soccer:
And more soccer news is that Liverpool has moved eleven points clear at the top of the Premier League table after beating reigning champions Manchester City two-nil at the Etihad Stadium. Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for the Reds, his 30th goal of the season, before Dominik Szoboszlai netted in the second to secure all three points. Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, says in every other league having a lead like this would be very comfortable, but not in the Premier League:
