# We start off with cricket: The Joburg Super Kings recorded a comprehensive nine-wicket bonus point victory over defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 at the Wanderers. Fast bowlers Lutho Sipamla and Hardus Viljoen ripped through the Sunrisers’ batting order, with the visitors bowled out for 118. In reply, Devon Conway scored an unbeaten 76 as he led the Super Kings to victory with 36 balls to spare. Super Kings captain, Faf du Plessis, was full of praise for Sipamla:
# Rugby: The Springbok Sevens went down 14-7 to Spain in the third-place playoff on the final day of the Perth Sevens. Hosts Australia denied the Blitzboks a spot in the final with an extra-time victory in their semifinal, before Spain denied the South Africans a place on the podium. Argentina retained their Perth title by beating Australia 41-5 in the final. Blitzbok coach, Philip Snyman, says the team’s discipline was not up to scratch:
# Golf: South Africa’s Daniel van Tonder defeated compatriot Altin van der Merwe on the first playoff hole to claim the SDC Open title at the Zebula Golf Estate and Spa in Limpopo. Van Tonder started the day seven shots behind Van der Merwe but made a five-under-par round of 67 to take it to a playoff. Ireland’s Liam Nolan finished in third place. Van Tonder says every win is special:
# Tennis: Madison Keys improved seven places to seventh in the world rankings after securing her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus is still number one, despite her loss to the American in the final in Melbourne. Iga Swiatek of Poland, American Coco Gauff and Italian Jasmine Paolini remains in the next three position. Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan improved to number five, followed by American Jessica Pegula. China’s Qinwen Zheng, American Emma Navarro and Spaniard Paula Badosa complete the top ten.
In the men’s game, American Tommy Paul has been the biggest mover in the latest ATP world rankings as he has cracked into the top ten for the first time in his career. The 27-year-old, who reached the Australian Open quarterfinals, jumped two places to a career-high world number nine. Italian Jannik Sinner, who won his second consecutive Australian Open title yesterday, continues to occupy the number one spot. Germany’s Alexander Zverev, who lost to Sinner in the final in Melbourne, is second, with Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in third.
