# We kick off with rugby: The Blitzboks defeated France 26-14 to win the Cape Town Sevens, their first home title success since 2015. The hosts bagged four tries through Donovan Don, Zain Davids, Shilton van Wyk, and David Brits. Fiji won the bronze medal when they beat Spain 47-10 in the third-place playoff. In the women’s competition, New Zealand were crowned champions after beating the USA 26-12 in the final, and France took the bronze medal after defeating Australia 17-14.
# Cricket: England’s Women defeated South Africa by six wickets in the second ODI in Durban, to level the three-match series. The hostesses were bowled out for 135 as they suffered a middle-order collapse, losing five wickets for four runs. Charlie Dean became only the seventh English player in history and third woman to take a hat-trick in ODIs. In reply, England reached the target in 24 overs. Proteas captain, Laura Wolvaardt, says they just did not have enough runs on the board:
# Golf: American Johannes Veerman claimed his second European tour title by winning the Nedbank Golf Challenge by one shot at Sun City. The 32-year-old closed with a 69 for a total of five under par. South African Aldrich Potgieter finished a shot back in tied-second alongside England’s Matthew Jordan and France’s Romain Langasque. Defending champion American Max Homa closed with a 75 and was tied for 14th, five shots behind the winner. Veerman says to win is indescribable:
In more golf news, the world number one, Scottie Scheffler capped off a brilliant season by successfully defending his Hero World Challenge title in the Bahamas. The American finished six shots clear of South Korea’s Tom Kim with his compatriot Justin Thomas in third. This is Scheffler’s record-equalling ninth title of the year, which includes the US Masters and Olympic gold.
# And finally, motorsport: Lando Norris won the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and secured McLaren’s first Formula One constructors’ championship in 26 years. The Briton led the race from start to finish to claim his fourth win of the season, with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc finishing second and third respectively. Lewis Hamilton took fourth place in his final race for Mercedes with his teammate George Russel in fifth. Norris says this is an incredible achievement for the team:
