Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# First up we have rugby: Italy, Georgia, Australia and Argentina will play the Springboks in South Africa next year. The matches on the fifth and twelfth of July will be the Azzurri’s first in South Africa in 12 years. The Boks will play Georgia a week later, whereafter the defending champion will face the Wallabies twice in the Rugby Championship in August. The Boks will then play two Tests against the All Blacks in New Zealand, as well as home and away matches against the Pumas.
More rugby news: Senior All Blacks were reportedly angry and disillusioned by head coach Scott Robertson’s mild punishment of flyhalf Damian McKenzie for breaching team protocol earlier this year. He missed the team bus after New Zealand’s victory over Fiji in San Diego in July, but only had to get to the airport on his own, and apologise to the team. The Kiwis lost to Argentina in their next match. The new coach apparently risked alienating the senior players for not meting out more severe punishment to McKenzie.
# Cricket: England’s Women recorded an emphatic 36-run win over South Africa in the second T20 in Benoni, to clinch the three-match series with a game to spare. Danni Wyatt-Hodge scored 78, and Nat Sciver-Brunt an unbeaten 67, as the victors posted 204 for four, their third-highest score in T20. In reply, South Africa was restricted to 168 for six with Sarah Glenn taking four wickets. England will look to complete a series clean-sweep in the final T20 in Centurion on Saturday.
Staying with cricket: Kane Williamson scored 93 as New Zealand posted 319 for eight against England at stumps on day one of the first Test in Christchurch. Williamson, who anchored a recovery after the hosts lost a wicket in the second over, fell agonisingly short of what would have been a 33rd Test century. His dismissal trigged a wobble from the Black Caps, losing four wickets in the final session of the day. Williamson says the match is evenly poised:
# And finally, soccer: Liverpool maintained their perfect start to the Champions League with a two-nil victory over reigning champions Real Madrid at Anfield. Second-half goals from Alexis MacAllister and substitute Cody Gakpo secured the win, their first over Madrid since 2009 in this competition. Borussia Dortmund moved into the top eight of the Champions League with a three-nil victory over Dinamo Zagreb, while Aston Villa played to a goalless draw against Juventus. Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, was happy with his side’s performance:
