# We start off with rugby: The weekend’s Test results had a huge influence at the top of the world rankings. South Africa returned to the top spot after last night’s victory over Scotland, while New Zealand is now second, followed by Ireland who relinquished the number one position after losing to the All Blacks. France is still fourth and Argentina improved to fifth after beating Italy, followed by Scotland. England slumped to seventh after losing to the Wallabies, who improved to eighth. Fiji is ninth after beating Wales, and Italy is tenth.
More rugby news: The Springbok Women’s Sevens successfully defended their Africa Women’s Championship title when defeating Kenya 19-10 in the final in Ghana. Retaining their continental crown means South Africa qualifies for the World Rugby Challenger Series next year. Coach Renfred Dazel praised his players for the effort, delivered in tough conditions at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium. He says they have now laid the foundation for the rest of the season:
# Cricket: The Proteas secured a three-wicket victory against India in the second T20 in Gqeberha to level the four-match series one-all. The visitors were sent in to bat first and posted 124 for six with Hardik Pandya scoring an unbeaten 39. In reply, Tristan Stubbs rescued South Africa from 66 for six and shared in a 42-run stand with Gerald Coetzee to end India’s winning streak in T20, which extended back eleven matches. The third T20 will be played in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Captain Jos Buttler hit 83 as England defeated the West Indies by seven wickets in the second T20 in Barbados, to take a two-nil lead in the five-match series. The home side posted 158 for eight in their 20 overs with captain Rovman Powell top-scoring with 43. In reply, Buttler shared a 129-run second-wicket stand with Will Jacks, before Liam Livingstone smashed an unbeaten 23 to see England reach the target with 31 balls to spare. The third T20 will be played at St Lucia on Thursday.
# And finally, tennis: World number one Jannik Sinner of Italy and American Taylor Fritz are off to a winning start in the Ilie Nastase Group of the ATP Finals in Turin. Sinner defeated Alex de Minaur, 6-3, 6-4, extending his perfect record against the Australian seventh seed. Fritz recorded his 50th win of the year by beating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev, 6-4, 6-3. Sinner, who has now won seven consecutive tour-level matches, says he is happy with his overall performance:
