Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# We start off with cricket: The Proteas remain on track to make the World Test Championship final, after beating Bangladesh by an innings and 273 runs in the second Test in Chattogram. South Africa won the series two-nil. The Proteas are fourth in the World Test Championship standings, but victories in their upcoming four home Tests against Sri Lanka and Pakistan between now and January would see them qualify for the final at Lord’s in June. Captain Aiden Markram says to be in the mix for the finals is amazing:
# Netball: South Africa claimed a comfortable 68-31 victory over Malawi in the first of three Tests in Johannesburg. The first quarter saw the victors score eleven goals to the host’s 16. The South Africans had opened the gap to 48-27 by the end of the second quarter. The Proteas continued their dominance in the third and fourth quarters to secure the victory. Proteas’ coach, Jenny van Dyk, says she is happy about the performance of her team:
# Rugby: The All Blacks will face England with their strongest possible team in London tomorrow. Head coach Scott Robertson recalled several senior players after last weekend’s Test against Japan in Yokohama, with only four players being retained in the starting team. The Kiwis defeated the English twice at home in July, but Robertson says four months is a long time in rugby. He says Twickenham is an iconic place to play and the roar of the crowd is like few others.
Meanwhile, three South African-born players have been included in Scotland’s match-day 23 for tomorrow’s clash against Fiji at Murrayfield. Loosehead prop Pierre Schoeman and left winger Duhan van der Merwe both start, while hooker Dylan Richardson is in line to earn his fourth Test cap off the bench. Meanwhile, Darcy Graham will make his first Scotland appearance in over a year after being included in the starting 15. Glasgow centre Sione Tuipulotu will lead Scotland for the first time since being appointed captain.
# And finally, tennis: Frenchman Ugo Humbert knocked out world number two Carlos Alcaraz to reach the Paris Masters quarterfinals. Humbert, who is chasing his third ATP Tour title of the season, saw off the Spaniard, 6-1 3-6, 7-5. World number three Alexander Zverev of Germany defeated France’s Arthur Fils, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, in the third round to reach his 31st ATP Masters 1000 quarterfinal and sixth this year. There were also wins for Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov, Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas and Australia’s Alex de Minaur.
